In Crimson Issue, the previous incarnation of this blog, we had an independent source of news and views on University of Nebraska-Omaha hockey that fans could turn to. This was a good idea in theory, but we felt that there was something lacking.
Granted, news regarding Maverick hockey, really any time during the year but especially during the offseason, isn't as free-flowing and constant as we see in Omaha's main daily newspaper and suchlike with a football team that, at last check, is situated rougly sixty miles away (although often times I wouldn't really consider it news; honestly, if you really care about spring drills, you need to find a new hobby sharpish.), but that's where people like us need to come in.
If Omaha's print and broadcast media outlets aren't willing to give UNO hockey the respect and attention it deserves (and they clearly aren't) it is up to to the fans to pick up the pace. With Radio Free Nebraska, we intend to do just that. We will make it our mission to not only report the news as it comes in, but also to give our readers an informed, objective view on what's going on.
We do reserve the right to deviate from our main focus from time to time to keep this thread from becoming as unbearably monotonous as you'll find in too many other blogs, but we will do so with the spirit of what Radio Free Nebraska is all about in mind. We hope to serve as an alternative to the droning and predictable traditional Omaha media. Besides, where else in the media but Radio Free Nebraska might you find the pundits longing for a CCHA play-by-play battle, perhaps something like...
Come on now, you can't expect us to take ourselves seriously all the time, can you?
(p.s.: Harrington would own bitches.)
